Engine management tuning, ECU remaps, diesel chipping, performance chips, Rotherham
What exactly is ECU remapping?Your engine management ECU receives signals from sensos around your engine. These sensors monitor such things as air flow, crank position and fuel injection timing. The ECU then processes this information to enable your engine to run to its optimum.
What sort of improvements should I get from a remap?
The expected gains vary depending on your type of engine and specification. Generally speaking turbo diesels see the greatest improvements, although significant improvements can be achieved on both normally aspirated and turbo petrol engined vehicles.
Not only will you engine gain more power (bhp) and more torque (Nm), flatspots will be eliminated and in many cases you may see a significant improvement in fuel economy depending on your engine type and your driving style.
Wat's the difference between chipping an engine and remapping?
The two are very similar due to the fact that most vehicles after 1996 allow you to 'chip' tune the ECU via the OBDII port, hence this becomes a remap. Chip tuning is basicaly a normal EPROM chip that you would find inside any engine ECU but has been reprogrammed with tuned software to give the engine more power and better drivability. Chipping used to be achieved by removing the chip, reprogramming it and then reinstalling it in the ECU. Or by replacing the standard EPROM chip with a modified one. Remapping is a much safer and easier method and does not usually require your bonnet to be lifted. We simply connect to the diagnostic socket and apply the modified software directly to the ECU.
Will I get better fuel economy?
Not neccessarily. This depends on the type of modification (remap) carried out and on your driving style. Many owners have reported that they do experience better fuel ecnomy after a remap especially during motorway driving. However, if you continuously use the extra performance available after an ECU remapping session, and have a heavy right foot then fuel economy will drop.
Will ECU remapping affect my vehicles emissions?
No. The vehicle will be fully compliant with MOT standards.
What are your opening hours?
JAYtecnik work six days a week Monday to Saturday and from 9am until 7pm (light permitting).
Where can you do my remap?
We can carry out your remap at any number of locations. This could be your place of work, at home, at a friends house, at a local garage of your choice. Basically anywhere where we can get access to the vehicle.
Will remapping the ECU on my car invalidate any warranty or affect my insurance?
Strictly
speaking the answer to this question is yes, however because we read
and modify the original map file of your vehicle, the ECU remap
modification is invisible and shows no signs of a vehicle upgrade.
Also we modify no physical parts of the engine, therefore the work
carried out will usually go undetected by most garages. As for insurance, may we remind you that it is a legal requirement to advise your cover provider with details of any upgrade that has been carried out to your vehicle. This is your resposibility not JAYtecnik's.
What warranty do you give?
All of our software remaps carry a four year warranty against software corruption. If the software becomes corrupted we will replace it for free, or if you desire, return your vehicle back to standard. Please note that we do not give warranty on your engine or any related parts.
Why should I have my vehicle ECU remapped instead of chipped (Superships etc...)?
When you have a vehicle chipped, the ECU itself has to be removed from the vehicle, the EPROM chip desoldered and then replaced with a modified chip. The ECU is then reinstalled back into the vehicle. This can cause a whole host of problems.
When a vehicle ECU EPROM chip is remapped via the OBDII serial port, it does not have to be removed from the vehicle. No components are replaced and no soldering takes place. The modified map is uploaded directly to the EPROM chip while in situ thus safe guarding the ECU against damage.
Why is a remap better than a tuning box?
The sole purpose of most tuning boxes is to fool the main ECU into delivering more fuel to the injectors. Typically this means that any extra power gained usually comes at the expense of low down driveability and could put increased wear on many engine components. An ECU remap will maximise your engines potential right throughout the rev range. Not only will low down grunt be improved but also top end power, and the driveability of your vehicle will be greatly enhanced. Put simply a full custom remap is a more complete solution than a tuning box such as those commonly avaible on eBay or other internet sites.
Why don't manufacturers remap their vehicles prior to sale?
There are two answers to this question. Firstly manufacturers sell vehicles all over the world and have to allow for differing conditions within each export market. Conditions such as climate, emissions regulations, fuel quality etc... all come into place. Secondly, believe it or not, not every driver wants their car to produce the optimum amount of power and torque. As a result of the above two situations, manufacturers try the best to come up with a cost effective compromise.
What if I want to return my vehicle to standard?
If you need to return your vehicle back to standard at a later date, then we keep a copy of each customer's standard map on hard drive. If this is not a result of a warranty issue or immediately after the first remap then a charge will apply for this service.
Alternatively you could purchase one of our switchable boxes which will enable you to upload the standard map back to your ECU. This is especially handy if you are uncomfortable sending your vehicle for a service or warranty work with a modified map. The other advantage of one of our switchble boxes is that we will email you the modified map and any software updates free of charge for you to upload to your ECU yourself. This facility allows you to switch between maps as often as you like and to upload your modified map if the manufacturer flashes it back to standard for whatever reason.
How much will it cost?
Our remaps start from a very reasonable £295.00 and discounts are availble for block bookings, so go ahead and get your mates involved, it will save you a few quid. The more vehicles to be remapped, the bigger the discount.
